Making Sonic Creativity Relevant
In today’s world we have perhaps the most diverse collection of approaches to music creativity in world history. Yet, at the same time, we are living through difficult times, economically and in terms of a variety of politically difficult threats ranging from environmental concerns to wars and threats of worse. There is very little funding for musical experimentation. Within this scenario, for those who choose to work within ‘high art’ formats, please support these traditions. The view put forward in this talk, however, is the value of making our shared journey of sonic creativity inviting to a much broader public than the one it serves currently as well as inviting in terms of participation. Towards this goal, investigating socio-political issues and other forms of shared experience within works is a formula that supports making our music accessible. The speaker will share his journey regarding making innovative sonic creativity relevant to broader audiences than the normal expert one.
