Spiros Deligiannopoulos was born in Zakynthos, Greece, in 1976. His first public performance as a pianist was at the age of 7. Initially he studied Musicology, (Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, 1995-2000), Music Theory (State Music Academy of Thessaloniki) and Piano (Contemporary Conservatory of Thessaloniki), where he graduated as a piano soloist with a “1st Prize for outstanding distinction”. Thereafter he moved to London and studied composition (MMus in Composition) at Goldsmiths – University of London (2002).
Returning to Greece he won the 1st Prize for the “G.A.Papaionannou Composition Contest” organized by the Greek Composers Union for his work “String Quartet no 2”.S He engaged his collaboration with the Public Sector of The Athens Concert Hall, writing about 300 original program notes (2004- 2011). He has also collaborated with the Athens and Epidaurus Festival and The Lyrical Scene as a musicologist writing 30 original program notes. He completed his PhD in Composition at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (2011) under the supervision of Michalis Lapidakis. He worked further on the fields of contemporary composition at Darmstadt Musikinstitute (2014).
Dimitris Lagios, Kostas Grimaldis, Georgios Thymis, Pavlos Demetriades, Kostas Siempis, Evi Nika- Sampson, Georges Aperghis, Alexandros Mouzas, Roger Redgate, John Baily, Keith Potter, Joel Hoffman, Pierluigi Billone, Helmut Lachenmann and Bryan Ferneyhough are also mentioned among his teachers in the fields of piano, composition and musicology.
Ηis compositions have been performed into the main music halls of Greece: The Athens Concert Hall, Parnassus Literal Society, Theocharakis Foundation, “Stegi” (Stage) of Fine Arts, Michael Cacoyiannis Foundation, German Institute Goethe – Atene, HellenicAmerican Union, Nakas Conservatory, Telogleion Institute of Arts (Thessaloniki), State Music Academy of Thessaloniki, Technical University of Patras and in the following European cities: London, Munich, Ancona, Moscow, Malta, St Petersburg.
His 3 first records (Music on Poetry, String Quartets No 2 & 3, Liquid Time) are available on iTunes and Amazon. His compositions are printed for Europe by the Swiss Publisher MusicaNeo. He is a member of the Greek Composers Union. He is a faculty member of the Ionian University.
