INFORMATION DAY FOR THE NEW INTERNATIONAL JOINT MASTER’S DEGREE

“Jazz and Mediterranean Music”

Ionian University & Sibelius Academy

 The Ionian University (IU) and the Sibelius Academy (SibA) of the University of the Arts Helsinki (Uniarts Helsinki) are organizing an information day dedicated to the presentation of the new international Joint Master’s Degree program titled “Jazz and Mediterranean Music”.

The event will take place on Saturday, May 16th, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., in the “Aris Garoufalis” Hall of the Athens Conservatoire.

  • A pioneering program for Jazz Studies and Mediterranean Music

The Joint Master’s Degree program “Jazz and Mediterranean Music,” developed within the framework of the subproject “Internationalization of Higher Education Services” of the Recovery and Resilience Facility, is an innovative academic initiative responding to the growing demand for the study of intercultural practices in the art of music.

By combining two vibrant musical traditions — the global language of Jazz and the rich musical heritage of the Mediterranean — this new English-taught master’s program will address an international audience as the only program of its kind worldwide.

  • Collaboration between two leading institutions

The Department of Music Studies of the Ionian University, a pioneer in Jazz education in Greece since 1996, and the Sibelius Academy, one of the world’s leading music institutions, consistently ranked 9-13th internationally, are creating a unique academic environment that bridges Northern and Southern Europe, as well as Mediterranean traditions with the international practice of Jazz.

  • Participants will have the opportunity to learn about, among other topics:

* The philosophy and objectives of the program

* The inter-institutional collaboration

* The structure and content of the studies

* The learning outcomes and career prospects for graduates

* The profile of candidates and the selection criteria
